Anark Sponsored Technology Report Reveals 3D Applications Drive Top Line Growth

Aberdeen Group Report Emphasizes Organizational Communication of 3D Design Data as a Key Element to Performance of Best-In-Class Manufacturers

Boulder, CO, October 3, 2007 – Anark Corporation today announced the availability of an independently produced industry white paper by leading analyst firm, The Aberdeen Group, entitled Beyond Engineering: New Applications of 3D Drive Top Line Growth. The recently released Aberdeen report highlights the perceived and growing importance of 3D in all areas of an operation for best-in-class high-tech manufacturers.

Aberdeen’s report quantifiably establishes that the advent of 3D solid modeling has not only fundamentally changed the design process within engineering, but it has also dramatically changed how other organizations execute communicate and collaborate with OEM partners, customers and employees alike. Based upon independent analysis, Aberdeen further found that manufacturers leverage 3D design data not only to save on costs, but also accelerate time to market with new products and drive top line growth. The benchmark report was designed to serve as a road map for the manufacturing community, learning from best-in-class manufacturers who have proven strategies and results.

Additionally, research found that executives have started to view 3D design data as a company asset instead of a single-use deliverable from engineering to manufacturing. Best-in-Class organizations are shown to actively have manufacturing and quality, documentation, training, and sales & marketing departments creating deliverables from 3D product design data. Distribution of 3D design data is also successfully being employed throughout the supply chain and the aftermarket support process, facilitating rapid design changes while reducing production times and costs.

“While limited or custom technologies have been available for non-engineering to use for some time, the findings from this benchmark report show that the availability of cost-effective CAD transformation and 3D deliverable authoring solutions is key to adoption,” offered Chad Jackson, Aberdeen’s Research & Service Director. “Anark’s approach to developing a suite of tools with the appropriate level of automation and sophistication makes it dramatically easier for manufacturers to leverage their 3D assets for a variety of communication and collaboration applications.”

Aberdeen’s conclusions report that to achieve Best-in-Class performance, manufacturers must extend access to 3D design data to non-engineering organizations and departments, while taking advantage of applications that embed 3D design data in documents. Manufacturing organizations are encouraged to author product visualization applications based directly on 3D design data, and use HTML/XML authoring tools maximize top line growth.

“Aberdeen’s study confirmed the trend that what have been seeing in the marketplace and mirrors how Anark is responding to the evolving needs of manufacturers,” said Scott Collins, Anark’s senior vice president of Product Development. “Marketing leading customers of the Anark Core Platform, such as Lockheed and Rockwell Collins, have demonstrated the need to cost effectively transform 3D data into numerous formats so that multiple, often geographically distributed, departments, can utilize it for high impact collaboration and communication applications. Aberdeen’s report defines how this is a key element to greater productivity and reduced costs for manufacturers.”
